This article explores the various facets that AI will impact, from geopolitical landscapes to our methodological approach to research. It underscores the urgency for everyone to contemplate the far-reaching applications of AI, given its potential to transform nearly every aspect of our daily lives. The AI revolution is here, and it is not going anywhere. Therefore, we must sustain and enrich the ongoing dialogue regarding AI's role, challenges, and opportunities in our rapidly evolving digital society.


Reflection from DET Student Maram Al-Halson:

"Nations are striving to gain geopolitical dominance through initiating AI education programs in schools. Regardless of these agendas, it is important for every AI researcher and expert to be mainly concerned with students’ best interest. They must work towards regulating the use of AI tools and finding an effective process to examine its end products and their potential impact on students’ education.


Maram makes a powerful point that we must consider the learner's needs and find pedagogical approaches to AI that help serve the students on their educational journey.

This article delves into the impact of AI on the workforce. AI has implications across professions, and the transition impacts will be similar to the Industrial Revolution except at a much faster pace. Individuals must pay attention to how they can adapt their skills to complement the support of AI.


As an instructional designer, I appreciate the insights on how AI integration can redefine learning methodologies and the need for a framework to keep pace with our ever-changing digital world.


Article: Touretzky, D., Gardner-McCune, C., Martin, F., & Seehorn, D. (2019, July). Envisioning AI for K-12: What should every child know about AI?. In Proceedings of the AAAI conference on artificial intelligence (Vol. 33, No. 01, pp. 9795-9799).


The article highlights the importance of incorporating AI education in the K-12 curriculum. Educating our youth is vital to equip young students with the necessary understanding and skills for a future where AI is expected to influence various aspects of society. The approach to teaching methodologies will need a complete overhaul to prepare for current and future integrations of AI.


This article acknowledges that we are in the midst of an education revolution. We must start partnerships with educators to develop policies and practical training strategies. The delicate balance will be researching and providing new skills to educators without adding to the already considerable demands on their workload.


Reflection from DET Student Brian Cordell:

" As AI is introduced to K-12 populations in schools, what protections can be put in place regarding children's privacy?"


Brian raises crucial points about the safety of children when implementing AI in classrooms. As AI technology rapidly advances, the pressing question becomes: how do we effectively safeguard our children in this digital age? With identity theft and various forms of cyber hacking becoming increasingly prevalent, it's essential to prioritize and rigorously address the privacy and security concerns surrounding our youngest learners. Ensuring their safety in an ever-evolving digital landscape is not just a necessity but an imperative for responsible and ethical AI integration in educational settings.

We must not shy away from AI but work with higher education stakeholders to develop innovative educational experiences that meet the needs of today's learners. It is crucial to delve into the research of how best to support the integration of AI in higher education to develop the digital literacy skills needed today and as AI transforms the world around us.
